Wild Bill Hickok

James Butler Hickok earned his nickname in the Army during the Civil War. After the war he stayed on as a scout.

He had a terrifying reputation as a gunfighter and lawman. By 1869 he was Town Marshall of Hays in Kansas, he had killed a number of men, he was then appointed as Marshall in Abilene.

In 1876 Hickok was moved to Deadwood, it was expected he would bring the town under his particular brand of law and order. Instead he gambled, was married and planned to mine for gold when he was surprised playing poker and shot.
