John Wesley Hardin

Era: 19th Century

Importance: Gunfighter and criminal

Module: American West

John Wesley Hardin

Hardin was a Gunfighter who killed almost 30 people in the West. Hardin had a ferocious reputation for his senseless acts of violence and murder. He was able to get away with his crimes because his victims were largely non-Whites and a lack of law and order at the start of the settlement of the West in the 1860s-70s.

Gunfighters of Hardin’s ilk quickly became a thing of legend as the Government introduced local Sheriffs and Marshalls to enforce the law and keep the peace.
