Bat Masterson

Bat Masterson’s importance lies more in the times in which he lived and saw as well as the many colourful jobs her performed.

Early on his life he was a buffalo hunter – massacring thousands of them to deny them as food to the Plains Indians. Later he was a professional gambler and a sports journalist. He became a County Sheriff following his move to Dodge City in 1876. Masterson was also linked to that other famous law enforcer of the age Wyatt Earp, Masterson even lived in the cowtown of Tombstone for a time.

Masterson’s life covers almost the whole story of the West – hunting buffalo to eliminate Plains Indian’s opposition to calming and civilising the new settler towns and was able to live in the East at the end of his life.
