Manifest Destiny and Early Migration

At the end of the 18th century the USA was a new country, the government wanted to govern the whole country without interference from overseas. They encouraged loyal Americans to populate the whole country; this policy was called Manifest Destiny.

The west coast of America was where settlers were encouraged to go with promises of fertile land. There were no trails for the first settlers to follow and it took them across the plain deserts, where the lack of water, danger from wild animals and diseases, made the journey very dangerous and some people died. There were a few attacks from Native American Indians; however the majority only wanted to trade with the settlers. After the first settlers, trails were laid out, and people travelled in groups for safety, with all the belongings in wooden wagons.  Many more Americas followed the trail as bankruptcy hit America in the 1830’s, fulfilling Manifest Destiny.
